Mekong Catfish Attack!
It was supposed day, weather forecast says sunny and bright day, and so we met up at the usual coffeeshop at 5:45am for some usual breakfast and stuff before proceeding to feed our fishing addiction.
6AM: Rain!
O.M.F.G! It's not supposed to rain! NO FREAKING WAY! Nothing will stop us from fishing! Braving the rain, we finally hit the arena! God, however, has other plans...
As if the rain was not enough, apparently some bloody company, in an effort to cut cost, decided to book the ENTIRE session pond for a company event! GREAT!
After some discussion, we decided to hit the legendary FW3 Ed's Pro Pond. Upon arrival, we decided quickly to hit the CnR pond for the biggies as Ken and Wanling has never fought a fish before. We paid for 3 rods and proceeded to look around before fishing.
Anthony and Wanling decided to use the fresh tembans I bought along while Ken chose to go with the rubbers dBs- recommended on our Changi trip (dBs- if you are reading this *CR COUGH CR* LOL ) at Changi Pro.
It was not long before we heard the sweet chime of running lines and bending rods!
Ken fighting his 1st fish
Me, Ken and Anthony took turns to fight the fish, judging by the strength, I thought it would be rather big, easily over 15kg. It took nearly an hour before we finally surfaced it despite Ken running a 2500 reel!
The Giant surfaces!
Ken's 1st fish caught, welcome to the club!
The worker handling the fish estimates it at a massive 30kg, Ken was still in a state of nirvana and only remembered that he didn't take a picture with the fish only after we released it! LOL OWNED!
Close up of the "not so gentle" giant.
Things started to get pretty quiet so we decided to break for lunch, after landing that 30kg fish, we proceeded to lunch with a lighter mood and aching arms! Things didn't pick up after lunch but we were still very happy with the results of that 1 fish!
After 2 hours of waiting, I thought we could be doing something wrong, that was when I noticed that we were the only people using floats! Upon realizing that, I changed wanling's rig to a single hook apollo with a size 3 sinker and true enough, before long, SWEET CHIME MUSIC!
After setting the hook and also realizing that this fellow we got is not really big, I decided to hand over the rod to wanling for her to fight the fish.
Me handing over the rod to Wanling.
"No no, you don't reel when he runs, you pump the rod, reel in any slack lines."
The fish surfaces! (Why like so small de -.- )
Happy Wanling and her 1st fish, welcome to the club! 1st blood!
Close up of Wanling's virgin fish!
Having tasted sucess with the apollo, I too, switched mine to the same rig, 5minutes later, SCORE!
Letting the guys have a turn at fighting my fish after setting hook and all.
Wanling almost could not handle the fast reaction of this Mekong.
Ehhh Why no one take pictures of me when I am fighting fish?? TMD!
The fish surfaces!
I wouldn't forget to take pictures with my fish, not like certain people :P
Ken with the fish, 30kg forget take, take 15kg lah, same :P
After that fight, we decided that today has been very fruitful, I would like to thank the company for booking TMJ paypond or we wouldn't have came here in the first place! Special thanks to gonefishing and dBs- of Handlingfish for recommendation of the place and picking the rubber for Ken's 1st fish (He got a 2nd but his leader burst due to abrasion).

Not Forgotten
Nope, I didn't forget this blog, just that lately a combination of events made it rather uneventful... I will normally post stuff if it's important or that trip is a important milestone for anyone of the guys, like Anthony's 1st fish or our 1st trip to Taman Jurong Paypond etc...
I am still waiting on dBs- 's CR on that sea trip we went together, will update once I get that.
Regards,
The Newbie

Tackle Set-Up Reference
Since this blog is mainly for the benefits of my new-to-fishing friends and a couple did raise several questions regarding what set-up were we using at the Taman Jurong pay pond. Since I am such a nice person I decided to share the information here!
Anthony was using:-
DAM Crosspower 7 feet Rod with fast action
Shimano Slate 2500FB
15lb braided line (Can't remember what brand)
30lb Surecatch leader
I was using:-
Protech 7 feet IM-7 Graphite
Spin Focus GT3500 Reel
20lb braided line (Some cheap $10 for 100m brand)
30lb Surecatch leader
Please note that these settings are strictly for reference only. I know of people *cough dBs- cough* who actually use size 1000 reels for pay ponds... Go figure...
While I am on the topic of tackle set-ups, I have seen people asking about Kuala Rompin set-ups as well, so I got this guideline courtesy of Macko of FK.
Tackle Needed.
Rod:Pe3-5
Reel size:6000-8000 size
Main Line:40/50lbs braids Min.300meter
Shock Leader:80-100lbs
Hook:6/0-7/0 Owner Circle Hook
That said, I was planning on a PE6 rod with a 5000 reel, so it goes to show how much your set up actually boils down to your preference.
Til next time, tight lines everyone!

Taman Jurong Pay Pond Part II
And so, after Thursday night's literally wasted trip, Anthony and I decided to give the day time 12 hours another shot before deciding if Taman Jurong pay pond is worth our time. There were supposed to be 4 of us going but Mr Desmond and Mr Ken decided to board the new Jumbo Airbus and leave us hanging out dry... but that will be a story for another time... Now for the CR!
After some quick breakfast and "tabao-ing" of our lunch at the coffeeshop, Anthony and I braced ourselves for another day of bite-less fishing.
6:30AM: We are really 2 crazy fishermen... Just look at the place... DARK!
Anthony and his trusty Surecatch set, fully loaded and thirsty for revenge!
8:30AM:
STRIKE! Anthony felt a bite on his rod and slowly reeled in, it was meant to be the first fish of his life but! alas! it was not meant to be! His line broke right as he got the fish to the side of the pond... Should have seen him cursing and swearing, but he cursed even more when the China man fishing beside us reckon that the fish that got away was at least a 4kg Taiwan Ngor. LOL!
On my advice, he switched over to Ken's 7feet DAM Crosspower and 2500 Slate (with 15lb braided) which I had borrowed from Ken as a back-up.
Anthony, setting up the new set up. With renewed vigour and lots of cursing (OF COURSE!) he set his bait and started to play the waiting game again!
10:30AM:
SCORE! Another bite, with the painful lesson of his first loss, he fought this fish with focus and determination that would have landed anything in this world (Man sure wants his catch badly).
And true to that, he got the first fish of his lifetime! Welcome to the club!
Anthony and his first fish!
Some close-ups of the fish.
11:30AM:
Not wanting to be outdone, My beautiful Red Drum reported barely an hour after Anthony got his!
Anthony and his photo-taking skills... *sigh* Need a fishing kaki who can take half a decent picture without SO MUCH BACKGROUND WTF! %^$%#^&*)
Close up of the Red Drum.
11:45AM:
Bite fest! Anthony's float begin sinking again! Play with the tension buddy! Gonna hang in there!
Anthony's 2nd catch, can you catch something else? This fish is beginning to bore me -_-"
Close up of the fish *Blah blah blah etc etc Yawnz~*
11:40AM:
As I was tying up Anthony's fish to the line, I saw my float sink! I hurried to my rod and had a rather fun fight with a 1.8kg KBL, it flipped on the water twice, I loved the way it jumps out of the water to dehook itself. The score is now 2-2! BRING IT ON!
Excuse the face please, you can't really smile when the damn fish is trying to slap you with it's tail.
Things got pretty quiet after that KBL so as per customs, I am shooting our arsenal!
All repeat after me: FISHING IS SERIOUS BIZNORZ! RAWR!
Introducing Mr Anthony-I-eat-other-people's-ice-cream-and-not-pay-for-it-and-my-tummy-is-continuing-to-grow-Lim
"Wow I think someone got a big fish! Maybe it's the taiwan ngor I lost! You think can claim back anot huh?"
More random ice cream shots.
Is it me or does he look F*CKING old in this picture!? O_O?
Getting tired...
The two "Siao On" Fishermen
At around 2:30PM it started to rain! sigh... We ain't that good but one thing we do know, rain = bad time for fishing, but oh well!
It was at this point I decided to do some luring on my new Strikepro popper I bought last week at Yishun's Sincere, but after my first cast, I LOST IT GOD DAMNIT IT FELL OFF THE LEADER! NOOO.!!!..!....!
Ignoring the rain, I ran around the pond asking other anglers to inform me if they happen to hook up a white popper, but alas! guess it can't be found...
The place at 3:30pm... Looks so dark.. Lost my popper, LOOKS EVEN DARKER!
We didn't have a bite for over 4 hours, so I decided to try my 秘密武器! Salted prawns, on Anthony's rod and true enough, we had a bite! Hello KBL!
Excuse his "steam" face, he haven't slept since Saturday. On a sidenote, the score is now 3-2. Damn!
The two soaked up men.
6PM: I was all for giving up and packing to go home when Anthony was like, "Is that your popper in the water?"
Ignoring the rain and bait, I took my rod out into the rain and saw that it was only around 10 metres away from me, using my level 99 uber-super-leet casting skillorz I was able to hook my popper back!
And no, the long leader and double prawns on the hook didn't help me, not the float too, it was just me, ONE MAN, BETRAYED BY HIS COUNTRY, ONE MAN WITH HIS TRUSTY ROD. Argh! Damn transformers! See what these movies nowadays do to your brains? THEY CORRUPT JOO!
Argh.. I didn't want to post these two pictures coz I LOOK F*CKING DUMB IN IT! but to be fair, I posted Anthony's old man pic, so oh well! Laugh all you want! I am over the moon to get my popper back!
Anthony and the catches, sorry picture's blurry, no idea why it turned out this way, must have been the camera. Yea.. that must be it.
The 1st fish we got died due to some festering wounds on it's head and belly, suspected foul hooking anglers. Those low-life...
Back at home, my 2 fishes in my sink, ain't they beautiful? *Beams with pride*
